With your support and collaboration, we're poised to bring about a revolution in high-performance computing.
I'm not an ordinary IT guy. As a matter of fact, I don't even have an IT degree. I did a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Mechatronics, and a Doctoral degree of Philosophy in Physics. And here I am, doing technical computing, not on the scientific/engineering application side of computing, but system administration side of things.
I first got myself into HPC through my first job with the High Performance Computing Center at a city state University. I was initially a HPC Application Engineer, carrying the role to port over scientific/engineering application from desktop computer into the University's state-of-the-art HPC cluster. I was very pretty good at compiling and cracking end user applications to run on the HPC cluster back then.
With limited resource at the center at that time, I literally had to look after almost everything at the centre, from system administration, job scheduling, data storage, network to end user applications. That slowly turned me into an all-rounded HPC system engineer.
I took a few other jobs after my life at the city state University's HPC Center. I have worked as a system engineer for a semiconductor manufacturing company, as a consultant and technical support for a renowned IT enterprise, again as a system engineer at another University, and as a storage system engineer and professional service for a data storage company. My career highlight came when I was recruited as system engineer to work on the most powerful supercomputer in the world at the academy level in year 2017. Though it was a short stint, it has been the greatest 18 months in my career.
Throughout my career, I have worked on many challenging problems, finding solutions to difficult issues and resolving them. I don't know everything, maybe just a little of everything, but I'm good enough to learn an unknown problem quickly, possess good analytic capability in understanding an issue, and find a solution to resolve it.
